Ok today was day Day 5 on Phase 1 (Pink Primary). This program just gets easier the longer you're on it. This week flew by and I had no cravings at all. I even took my daughter to a local pizzeria where she had Cheesesteak and French Fries and it didn't bother me in the least. Looking at all the food on the counter used to have my mouth watering and undecided on what to buy, but this time I just kept saying, yuck all that fat is going straight into the arteries of the customers! And, all those calories are going to sit right on their butts and thighs. I wanted to shout "get on the P.I.N.K Method!" :-)
So after leaving the pizzeria, I came home and made my delicious healthy dinner! Yum, Yum, Yum eating healthy is Fabulous!!!! See today's meals below.
Until my next post...

Feel the burn??? That's just your body changing!!!
Today's title is one of the favorite sayings of the PINK workout leader for PINK Primary. I have been feeling the burn and I figured I would check in and share my progress since my last post. In tribute to one of my Sheros Whitney Houston, my workout theme song is now Step by Step (so fitting...)
I began PINK reset at 237 lbs (I'm 5'3".) after RESET I was 225 lbs (and I've lost a couple lbs since) for a total of 12 lbs lost! I cannot believe it. I always lose weight in my face first so I'll share my before and my now pic so you can see what I am talking about. This program must be the bomb because I thought I couldn't live without bread, cheese, processed foods, snacks, oil, etc. And now I am living proof.
Starting PINK Primary brought on new challenges. I have A LOT left to learn. I began eating too much but was still losing a pound a day. That has since slowed down, but I am learning that with the addition of new food I have lessen the amount of food instead of just adding the new stuff. And I am learning to adjust things according to my lifestyle and habits. For example, PINK suggests I have a medium fruit with lunch. I may have that fruit as a snack an hour before or after lunch instead. I was getting slack with my water (even though I am very hydrated) so I am getting back on track with that. I now understand that I need to eat certain things (good carbs) to maintain enough energy to do the workouts. So step by step I am getting adjusted. 3 weeks will be gone before I know it and I'll be in the gray area once again as I switch to phase 2.
Ok, the workouts are basic lunges, squats, core work etc with light weights and some difficult gravity defying yoga moves. I did not watch the videos ahead of time (out of fear) and attempted to go at it full force last monday. Well, that was disasterous. I cried like a baby when I couldn't do the yoga and it was too late at night to drink the shake and (I think I was PMSing guys) everything was going wrong. After a much needed pep talk and instructional from Michelle (the other PINK in this pod) and support from my closest girlfriends I got it together and have been strong every since.
The workouts are challenging but only a few moves are advanced. Within the 3 weeks alloted for this phase I believe I will have all of them down pat (except that damn crazy yoga move). The workout lead keeps reminding me to stay present, focus on me. I am working on that. She says it's your time... and I really feel like I am on the brink of something. It is my time, to get healthy and fit.
One thing I will say is there is room for error in PINK primary so thank God the creator has several lengthy web chats online that answer everyone's burning questions. I even found out I can have air popped popcorn (which is not in the book). So off I go to the store for some organic popcorn and the popper!!! This is the BEST news I have gotten in weeks (besides my weight loss that is...)
Before I go, I must admit that everyone around me in on board. They are inspired by me and I am inspired by them. One of my friends bought in and started RESET this week! Go gurl!!! And I am working on another. My nearest and dearest are making changes in their own ways to foster better health and fitness. It's become a little revolution.... and I'm proud to be a catalyst for change.
Well there's a bridge and there's a river that I still must cross
As I'm going on my journey
Oh, I might be lost
And there's a road I have to follow, a place I have to go
Well no-one told me just how to get there
But when I get there I'll know
Cuz I'm taking it
[Chorus:]
Step By Step, Bit by Bit,
Stone By Stone (Yeah), Brick by Brick (Oh, yeah)
Step By Step, Day By Day, Mile by mile (ooh, ooh, ooh)
I became emotional today while I took strides to this song on my elliptical. First because a legend of our time has passed. Second because I have come a long way since 20 days ago (mind, body and spirit). I had just finished the PINK workouts (day 3 PINK Primary) and was adding a little extra oomph with the elliptical workout. This journey for me has been a step by step kind of situation. From 3 weeks ago when we decided to prepare to start this program until now. Here's my stats...As I'm going on my journey
Oh, I might be lost
And there's a road I have to follow, a place I have to go
Well no-one told me just how to get there
But when I get there I'll know
Cuz I'm taking it

P.I.N.K Primary Phase 1 - Day 1
Hello Two Pinks In a Pod Readers,
Today was my first day on Phase 1 (P.I.N.K Primary). I was so excited to do the P.I.N.K workouts and they weren't too bad. Since I had viewed the videos ahead of time, I figured I would have trouble with the yoga. Suprisingly, I did better than expected, but still could not do it completely. However, I think before I get to Phase 2 I will be able to do the yoga workout to completion.
Now for my weightloss on Reset. I lost a total of 8 pounds on 14 days of Reset, which brings my weight to 264 (see scale below). Some people lose more, 10 - 14 pounds, but I'm not dissapointed at all because I was prepared for the scale ups and downs through the information provided in the P.I.N.K Method book. In addition, the scale doesn't tell the whole story. I lost 8.5 inches overall! The inches I lost are; Bust: 1.5", Waist: 3.5", Hips: 2" and Thighs: 1.5".
Another thing I'd like to point out is that the 35 minute workout (2 dvd's) is not enough for me. I am used to doing atleast 45 minutes to an hour workout. So, after doing the P.I.N.K workouts, I either do the treadmill or another cardio workout video for 45 minutes to an hour. This additional workout is P.I.N.K Method approved as it is encouraged in the book and entitled Advanced Program for Accelerated Results. :-)
As I mentioned yesterday, I will no longer be posting everyday. I will now post twice a week at the beginning of the week and at the end of the week. I will also only weigh myself once a week going forward. The P.I.N.K Method book requires you to write down your weight everyday, but from what I know about fluctuations in weight throughout the day and the month, I think it's more encouraging to weigh in once a week. This way you aren't disappointed from one day to the next and end up fallling off track.
As usual, today's meals are below.
Until my next post...

Lunch: Broiled Lamb Loin Chop

Reset Day 14 - Last Day!
Well, today is the last day of Reset. Woohoo! Reset is the most restrictive part of the P.I.N.K Method program and it was fairly easy. Everyone doesn't have to stay on Reset for 14 days. The amount of time you stay on Reset is based on your current weight. However, 14 days is the most time you'll ever spend on Reset throughout the entire program unless you just want to do 14 day Reset again.
I will post my weight and inches I've lost during the Reset phase tomorrow, as I won't know if I've lost any weight or inches today until then. I'm so excited to start the P.I.N.K workouts tomorrow. I will be working out in the mornings and probably again later in the day, everyday.
After my posting tomorrow, I will not be posting everyday. I will most likely be posting twice a week. However, if you have any questions please feel free to comment and I and the other pink in the pod will respond in a timely manner.
Today's meals are below.

Reset Day 12
Hellooo Everyone,
Today was another great day on P.I.N.K Method. Did I tell you I loooove this program :-) As I said, the other day I started working out a little. Even though, the program is not designed for working out during the Reset phase, I have so much energy and feel so awesome that I feel strong enough to workout a little. This morning I got on the treadmill for a half hour and did 4 sets of 12 crunches. I feel great and cannot wait until Monday when I get to do the full P.I.N.K workouts.
Well, that's all I have to report today. My meals for today are below.
Until my next post...

Lunch: Egg Salad over Cucumbers

Life is a Moving Target....
Listen, these are my tips for making it through...
This was my lunch today. I have shown this type of salad before, but I wanted to share why I think this is a great option for a light meal at lunch or dinner. I find this meal to be very satisfying and very filling. I use one can of starkist select low sodium and hellman's low fat mayo. I do not use enough for it to be swimming in mayo. Add just enough to mix with garlic powder, fresh ground pepper and cayenne (to get that metabo going...) I put the tuna in half a bell pepper. I use different colors because it's pretty. When I eat it, I pick it up and bite into it. That gives me the feeling like I am eating a sandwich. It's crunchy and satisfying and filling. Give it a try...
This week I was feeling like if I drank PINK drink #1 ONE MORE TIME I was going to lose it! So I felt adventurous enough to try PINK drink #2 and #3. I don't hear much chatter about these drinks so I am here to give you the inside scoop! Both drinks call for Hemp protein powder which I got from Wegmans. And both call for vegetables - which I am not used to (at all...).
PINK Drink #2 was an acquired taste...I tolerated it for 2 days but have decided to retire this option from my repetoire. It calls for Spinach, Carrot, Beet, Strawberries and Coconut Water among other ingredients. It was a really dark red drink with an earthy taste. I felt like I was really part of the crunchy granola crew with this option. It was gritty and earthy (insert - tastes like dirt) and well... let's move on.
It is now my breakfast until I get sick of it and move back to #1. I love this drink because it calls for coconut milk, banana, strawberries, spinach, beet, fresh lime juice, stevia (if needed), etc. The big tip with this drink is that you HAVE to blend it twice as much. (maybe #2 would've been better and less gritty if I had done that...but we'll NEVER know....). This drink is tasty and had me doing a happy dance after the last two days doing #2. I highly recommend it. Try it and let me know wzup....
Ok, I am on day 12 (out of 14) of reset with The PINK Method. I've lost 10 lbs since last monday.
I am super pyched!!! I would NEVER have guessed I could make it through this phase. I have not had any processed food, white sugar, snacks, cheese (which is my life...) etc. in 12 days and I don't want any either. I am soooo confused!! I have thought about eating Rita's water ice on several occasions but never broke my contract with myself. I previously did not believe I had enough will power to conform to this regimen. I even had an encounter in the grocery with those same chips the other PINK in the pod ran into yesterday. But I kept it pushing (I was on my way to get frozen strawberries for my shake) and I was like "I don't want you!!"
I never drank water and now that's all I drink. I ate emotionally before but in this last 12 days I have talked it out with friends, snapped out on folks a couple times, made amazing paper crafts, caught up on shows, blogged, etc. Anything to keep food as nourishment only. There have been many mine fields along the way... Life is a moving target when you have young kids, a dog, a house and a husband to take care of. But you can do it. I was least likely to success and I am off to a great start.Listen, these are my tips for making it through...
- stay positive - your attitude is 95% of it. What you think you are or can do it what you bring into reality. It's the same for the negative thoughts.
- drink the water - if you cannot do the full amount, drink as much as you can. It speeds the weight loss
- make the meals that excite you - I never was big on eating this way but I like knowing I am doing the right thing and that I have many choices. Arrange a pretty plate, use lots of color etc.
- everyone eats the same - move everyone in the household to this meal plan so you won't operate like a restaurant or be tempted to cheat. if that doesn't work... have them cook for themselves or if it's young kids - feed them things that they love but you don't want anyway. My kids have been trying all the new veggies in the house. they love some and hate others. Well, at least now I know...

Reset Day 11 - Food Gremlins
Today was good as usual, except when I went to the grocery store to buy more veggies and protein. Not that I needed more protein because, I still have plenty of salmon, shrimp, pork chops and some chicken breast left. I just wanted something different so I purchased Lamb Loin Chops, lean Steak and skinless chicken thighs, too bad I will only be able to eat one thigh :-( Anywho, as I walking through the store getting my items I decide to go down the organic aisle thinking that there was nothing there that could be harmful. WRONG!!! I totally forgot about my favorite potato chips in the whole wide world - Salt & Vinegar made by Kettle. OMG! I started to taste them in my mouth and I wanted to get a bag so bad. And wouldn't you know it, those suckers were on sale 2 for $5!!! I ran out of that aisle so quick, I know people were wondering what the heck was wrong with me :-) I quickly finished my shopping, went through the self checkout and got the hell out of there with the quickness. Thank you God I did not cheat!!!
Moral of the story, when you think everything is going good and when you least expect it, a food gremlin :-) will pop up and try to deter you. Stay on track and keep moving forward.

Reset Day 10
Today was Reset Day 10 and things went cool as a cucumber. I have so much energy I really want to excercise, I can hardly wait until Monday. I did do a little excercise today. I did situps just to prepare myself for the mat workout and yoga that I will be doing in the next Phase.
Since I had my appendix removed as a child, whenever I do situps or any stomach tightening exercise, my stomach cramps up in the area where I had surgery, this is called adhesions. So, I have to slowly get my stomach accostomed to perfoming these stomach crunching moves. After doing them for a while my stomach doesn't cramp up, but it is extremely painful when it does. :-0 Do you have any issues that hinder or could hinder your working out?
That's all I have to report today. Below are my meals from today. If you haven't already noticed, I love Grilled Salmon and Tomatoes. :-)

True Confessions of a PINK in the Pod
I have not posted in a few days because I have been going out of my ever lovin' mind!! But the good news is I've regained my senses and have returned to tell you all about it. I ended my last post with the news that I had tried Chia seeds. On one hand, the Chia seeds gave me amazing energy and curbed my appetite but on the other hand I somehow gained 1.4 lbs in a day after taking the seeds. So I have stopped using them for now. Perhaps they are not good during reset. They weren't PINK approved I was just trying to maximize my weight loss. BUT trying this shortcut was detrimental to my weight loss. I have learned my lesson. It never pays to cut corners.
I also learned not to live by the scale. I had gotten used to seeing that one pound less every morning. It was my reason for getting up in the morning. It was (still is) a ritual...use the bathroom and then take my weight just before getting into the shower. Once I didn't see that pound of weight loss I became depressed and obsessed with continuing to lose. Although I know slight fluctuation is normal during weight loss it still drove me crazy. It had me wanting to break the scale, cheat and have something fattening, reaching out for additional support from friends, getting behind in my water and eating schedule, etc.
I also was stressing over having a Stampin' Up home party one day and attending a Tastefully Simple/ Willow House home party the next day. I was a wreck about having people over and serving just veggies. I was worried that going to the Tastefully Simple party would do me in...all those yummy dips, cakes, etc. to sample. I am glad to say I have great friends - like the one who's in this pod with me - who didn't mind coming over without having festive drinks and the usual spread of treats. And on the next day, I made sure I ate my lunch right before I left and I drank water and made the decision not to taste the food. I was full. I only tasted a tad of salsa on top of two carrot slices and kept away from the food for the rest of the event. I was so happy and proud of myself. By the next morning, the scale showed 1 pound less. (happy happy joy joy)!!
On to the food... this is what I have been enjoying in the last week. Two tips I have for you... liquid aminos is the bomb! I made teriyaki chicken by adding water, a squirt of liquid aminos and ginger powder to the crock pot. Everyone in the house loved it. I also used it with the fish...superb. A friend gave me the best advice about cooking mushrooms. I am not a mushroom person but this is tasty (see pic below). For snack when I am hungry, this hits the spot. I eat them by the pack full now.
Please do not expect pretty pics of perfectly arranged food. I can barely get the pics done before I tear into it. And most times I forget altogether.

Half red bell pepper filled with Tuna Fish Green salad with Wegman's Organic Miso Dressing |
Snack - Organic mushrooms cooked with chopped onion, seasoning of your choice and balsamic vinegar |

Excess weight is gained one pound at a time over a matter of time...and that's just it will come off. Soooo, stay calm and carry on.

Reset Day 6
Ok, today was better. I hung out with the other Pink in a Pod for her Stampin Up party. I did not get back home to eat my dinner at the appropriate time. I ate later than I should have, but that's ok. Now it's 8:25pm and I only have 16oz. of water to drink and I will be done with my gallon of water for the day.
I'm a little tired tonight, so I won't be doing the reading I had planned to do. I'm just going to watch a few t.v. shows and doze off to sleep. As usual, my meals for the day are below. I did not eat all of the turkey burger because it ended up being more than 4oz. I thought I would make the burger a little bigger because it would shrink during the cooking process, but it didn't. LOL!

Reset Day 5 - Difficult
Hey Ladies,
Today was Reset Day 5 and for the first time on the program it was a difficult day. It was difficult because I literally had to FORCE myself to eat. I was not hungry at all, so much so that I didn't eat dinner until 8:55pm! I drank my Pink shake as usual and was on a steady pace drinking my water. When it came time to eat lunch I just was not hungry. So, I waited a few hours and the same thing happened with dinner. However, I know I must eat because you cannot skip a meal on this program. Ironically, this is also one of the issues I had before going on the program. I could go all day without eating, which is bad because then your body will hold on to fat when you don't eat, thus not being able to lose weight.
Well, tomorrow will be better especially since I will be hanging out with the other Pink in the Pod, La-Vie. La-Vie is having a Stampin Up home party and even though I'm not a Crafter like her, I always try to support. Plus, I love home parties! Well I would because, I'm a Silpada Designs Rep and I do home parties myself :-) You can check out the beautiful jewels here ==> BeautifulJewels.
As usual today's meals are below. I did not eat all the Ahi Tuna, not just because it was a little more than 4oz., but because I just could not get it down. :-(
Until my next post....

Real Talk.... my triumphs, struggles and tips
Good afternoon P.I.N.K. Ladies!
I thought I would holler just before I go make some curry shrimp and cauliflower for lunch with lots of water to drink of course! I am on day 5 of the reset (with 9 days to go before starting PINK Primary). So far I have lost 4.5 lbs. I love waking up and jumping on that scale! Anyhoo, today I thought I would share some of my triumphs, struggles and tips for this glorious program called The P.I.N.K. Method.
Real talk... I was living very unhealthily for many years. I did not know how to turn my health around for the better. I was sedentary. I wasn't willing to become obsessed with counting points, calories, eating pre-packaged meals that arrive in the mail, etc. I have tried it all. Nothing was lasting. And most importantly, I didn't want to sacrifice in terms of eating. Rather than eating cardboard, I always wanted to eat things that were tasty and be able to choose from a varierty of constantly changing items. Restriction and Complication = me not losing weight.
I was not a water drinker or vegetable and salad eater in the past. I did partake, but not every day and not enough to matter. I loved everything fattening. The things that make you loosen your top button on those jeans after the meal is done. Thus, it was a very difficult mental decision to start this program. I couldn't fathom eating veggies constantly and only eating a couple of meals loaded with what? ... MORE veggies. But my friend Michelle and co-author of this blog encouraged me that this plan was doable. So we embarked on this journey together but my experience has been different than hers... I have struggled with different aspects of the plan where she has not.
So now, I am going to tell all in the next few posts! The other side of the pea pod confessess...
P.I.N.K. Drink #1 |
Ok, this is the breakfast while on reset. I have mastered this drink now, but on the first day I added the ingredients and then added ice. Well, that was a huge no-no. The volume tripled and it tasted like nothing but froth even though I added 8 drops of liquid stevia.
Liquid Stevia from Wegmans |
I also used the protein powder my husband (the body builder and beach body coach) uses. That protein powder was not P.I.N.K. approved so I took myself to GNC and asked the salesperson to hook me up. Luckily exactly what I needed was on sale! SCORE. I highly recommend GNC Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60 for the taste and for the ingredients. Note, the supplement facts are based on 3 scoops - we only need one so divide by 3.
My mornings tend to be running ones... dropping off kids, running errands etc. I was not prepared that first day. I didn't bring water or snacks. By lunchtime I was hungry like the WOLF! Then by late afternoon I crashed. I had a bad headache an no energy. I had to sleep to conserve my energy. I was snapping at everyone when I awoke too. I got way behind in my schedule. I was too weak to cook dinner!! I threw the pork chops on the pancake griddle with less than stellar results and sat my butt back down to recoup from that ten foot walk around the kitchen. Then I had to chew gum to make it through the evening and in the middle of the night while I slept to make it through.
So sad... my husband was looking at me like I was crazy and asking "why are you doing this again?" And my 7 year old daughter was like "Mom, I'm sorry you're sick, but you don't have to do what that lady says... just eat healthy food and don't snack on junk" all matter of a fact. WOW! From the mouths of babes... I didn't even finish my gallon of water but after all that... I lost 1.5 lbs by the next morning. So I decided to get my act together.
I got scheduled and made sure I had an idea of what I would eat when and how long it might take the prep and cook. I got on top of my water intake. I talked to friends for ideas and checked the message boards and facebook groups for tips. That has helped tremendously. Now it's easy peasy... If I even start to get a headache or the shakes I know I need to eat and drink water fast and in a hurry to head it off. I have energy enough to load the dishwasher and the laundry (which wasn't the case earlier in the week). I'm feeling amped.
The last thing I will say, is I have been using chia seeds yesterday and today. I am going to report back on how that improves things for me. It is a natural appetitie suppressant and they give you energy. These are the ones I bought from Wegmans organic isle.

Reset Day 4
Well, it's Reset Day 4 and I'm still going strong. My energy is up and I'm not having any cravings. I thought I might crave some Chardonnay (I love wine LOL), but haven't even thought about it. I love the P.I.N.K Method! I keep telling the other Pink in the Pod (La-vie) that we are going to be looking soooo good because this program is so easy to do, and we're still on Reset. When we move to the other phases we will have more food options. This is a win - win weightloss program in my opinion. As always, today's meals are below.

Reset Day 3
Hello PINKettes and potential PINKettes,
Today is the third day of Reset and I'm doing well. The scale says I lost 4 pounds! Woohoo! I'm doing really well with the food choices and my water intake (drank 1/2 gallon by 1pm.) Today for lunch I repeated some vegetables because they were left over from the other two days and wanted to get them eaten up before they went bad. I really can't wait to start the workouts in another 10 days. I'll probably regret saying that, but I know the weightloss and the real changes to my body will happen then. If you would like the recipe for any of the meals, please post a comment.
Until my next post...

Lunch: Cumin Dusted Chicken Breast
Grilled Asparagus
Grilled Eggplant
Dinner: 3 Spice Shrimp
Sauteed Green Beans
Sliced Tomatoes
P.S. You will see sliced tomatoes in my meals often. :-) I used to eat these when I went south to visit family and my grandmother grew a variety of vegetables and she would always have fresh sliced tomatoes right from the garden.
Greetings from the other P.I.N.K. in the pod
Heeeeeeyyyy! I'm La-Vie B. and I am the other P.I.N.K. in the pod! I thought I would jump on and introduce myself. Michelle was so good about getting thing started and explaining what we are doing. This is my first time co-writing a blog. My primary blog is all about my creativity http://www.cestla-viedesigns.blogspot.com/ and this blog is all about our health.
I started gaining weight at age 12 when my father passed of cancer. I turn 37 this year. Back in the day, no one thought of grief counseling or familyt counseling to help me deal with my devastation over the loss of my father. I ate my pain then and haven't stopped since. Now don't get me wrong, I have had a successful life however, this issue of weight has been the bane of my existence. This year, I waged war on the extra weight I carry and will give myself no more excuses to hide behind the bulge.
My friend Michelle told me about The P.I.N.K. Method and we have begun this weight loss journey together. At first I was in shock. I was like what??? We're really going to do this? But Michelle was so gung ho that I had to get myself together fast. Before I knew it, we were having our last big supper, taking before pics, shopping for all the healthy foods we need to have on hand and joining the P.I.N.K. community.
I thank God for Michelle and my other friends who are supporting me through this journey and joining in with me in their own special ways. Shout out to Crystal, Nikki, Seandra and Rhumel!
Ok, on to the specifics! Doesn't this just make your mouth water?? It's my P.I.N.K. drink #1 (there are 3 to choose from) that serves as my breakfast for the reset phase of The P.I.N.K. Method. I am going to be in this phase for 14 days before moving on to Phase 1 of the program.
I love the protein powder I got from GNC which is perfect for following this plan. I really felt like I was in Friendly's when I drank this! I also added a few drops of liquid Stevia for sweetener. My tip for making this shake is to use the Ninja blender and freeze your fresh fruit in a baggie with the appropriate amount of fruit for a quick grab 'n go feel. In the past I always forgoed breakfast because I was getting the kids on their way. Now I make it quick fast and easy to make my shake and sip on it in the car or while I am getting the lunches ready or wherever I am in the house.
Here's a typical meal. We are allowed two meals of 4 oz of lean protein and unlimited low calorie vegetables. Also, I can eat unlimited vegetables all day as snacks. My biggest battle is with the water. I have to drink a gallon based on the new requirements. That keeps me in the bathroom constantly (so dag on annoying). I started the plan this past Monday and I still have not gotten to the point where I have drank the gallon by bedtime. I will though... you just wait...
Tell me ladies.... if you are on the P.I.N.K. Method or have been working on your health and fitness - What is your best nutrition tip or trick?

Until next time...Think P.I.N.K.!
